Why did we build Hypebox?

At HypeBox, our team is deeply rooted in the sporting world - especially in padel and tennis. From owning and managing clubs to serving on committees and actively competing in leagues, tournaments, and social events, we’ve experienced the full spectrum of what it takes to run and play in the South African sports scene.

Through this journey, we’ve seen a recurring issue faced by many clubs. Most rely on international platforms that charge monthly subscription fees just to operate. On top of that, they take a percentage of all revenue generated through their systems. Because these platforms are based overseas, both clubs and players are hit with international banking and transfer fees, adding even more financial strain.

It doesn’t stop there - these companies often hold club funds in their own accounts, earning interest on that money before paying it out monthly or bi-weekly. When you look at the scale of this across South Africa, the revenue they generate from interest alone is significant.

And while we assume they are paying taxes in their home countries, it’s concerning to note that hundreds of millions of rands are processed through these platforms in South Africa, with little to no financial return to our own economy - not even in the form of local VAT contributions.
